Interpretive Log: Version Changes

As I noted at the close of the Interpretive Log page, my version uses an earlier draft of James Tabor's Log I got off of Gopher (anybody remember that?) to supplement the version from Waco Never Again. For the convenience of those who might want to track the changes between the three versions, I have drawn up this comparison.

(For those who want to see for themselves, I've also posted the Gopher version. I have slightly munged Dr. Tabor's e-mail address in the two places it occurs. The largely pre-spam days of Gopher were a more innocent time, and I worried he might not want that address exposed to spam harvestbots. I also added the .txt suffix to the filename. It is otherwise unchanged.)

My main objective was to incorporate Tabor's coding references, which got stripped out of the WNA version. I did this by color-coding these passages, and changing his front tags from the HTML-unfriendly "<x>" format to "[X]".

The Gopher version also included some ancillary text, dropped in the WNA Log, which I have not restored, except the Coding Key. Another difference is that the Gopher text was double-spaced; I have followed the WNA Log in single-spacing the lines.

Below are the lines of the Log's main text that underwent changes, and my disposition of them. I have stuck with the additions and revisions of the later WNA Log. But some typos crept into that version, as well as some style changes, which I have restored to the prior Gopher text. (These reversions are minor, but are noted in the interest of completeness.) I have also taken it upon myself to correct some errors persisted in both versions, and some Gopher coding tags that seemed to be mistaken. To simplify the comparison, I have excluded the coding tags from the Gopher lines, except when they are involved in the changes.

In some places, the WNA version replaced the original quoting style
with the double-quote character. Since this wasn't done everywhere, I
decided to change back for the sake of consistency.

This phrase is coded <e> for emphasis, but doesn't seem to match the

used only for a word or a couple of words. Based on the subject matter,
I believed it more likely that this was meant to be a <k>, and I have
gone ahead and changed it.
